There are optional weekly and monthly homework packets. Weekly homework packets will be sent home every Monday. Return the homework packets on Friday of the same week. We will not have homework on shortened weeks. Monthly homework packets will be sent home in the beginning of each new month. Please complete the special activities with your child and return at the end of each month. Developing responsibility and reinforcing work that we are learning at school is a major part of homework. Homework is a way for you to work with your child to see if they really understand what we are doing in class. Some pages are independent work, and others may need you to read directions to your child. Homework in Kindergarten is an ADULT/CHILD activity. Please look over your child's work after they have completed their homework and help them to fix any mistakes they have made. Use this as your teaching opportunity with your child. Homework will usually include: * Take-Home Reading Books Beginning in October, your child will be able to check out a book of their choice from the Eaton library every Monday. Your child will bring home the library book and reading journal in their homework envelope. Please complete one or more of the reading journal activities during the week. On Friday, please return the manila envelopes with the journal and library books inside. If your child does not return the envelope and book, he/she cannot check out a new book the following week. Often, students will bring home a book that is not an appropriate reading level or is too lengthy. If that is the case, you can complete the reading journal activity using another book you have at home or a book from the public library. * math worksheets The math homework will review the most recent content we are learning in class. Students should be able to complete most of the activities with little direction since it is a review of classwork. Please make sure you go over your child's work and explain problems to them if they do not seem to understand the concept. Similarly, please look over the math classwork that comes home in the Daily Folders each week and review the vocabulary words or activities. * language arts worksheets Students will have homework on the "skills of the week." Each week in class we will be focusing on a range of skills including: letter identification, letter sounds, phonics, grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, high-frequency words, etc. I will send home work that matches what we have been practicing in class. We will also be spending a lot of time working on handwriting! In addition to weekly homework packets: * Students must prepare their SHARING on the day they are assigned to. |
