We will be starting sharing on Monday, September 20th. Your child will be assigned one day of the week to share something that fits our weekly sharing topic (see attached). Please make sure your child is prepared to share on his/her assigned day! Sharing will be automatically cancelled if there is a field trip that week or if it is a shortened week. Sharing should follow the weekly topic (see attached). Students must bring the actual object or a large, colorful visual to share information about. This gives the rest of the class something to look at while the students are talking. Students should (eventually) memorize at least 4 complete sentences about their object and make sure to practice their sharing at home so they are prepared for the class. I will be assessing the following areas each week:

1) Content: Is the student prepared with at least 4 complete sentences? Is the sharing the right topic?

2) Visual: Did the student bring an object or large, colorful visual to show the class?

3) Eye Contact: Is the student looking at the class or reading a paper? Is the student looking down?

4) Presence: Is the student standing still? Is the student holding the picture/object for all to see?

5) Volume: Is the student speaking clearly? Is the student speaking with a loud voice?

6) Fluency: Is the student keeping a good pace? Is he/she rushing or pausing between sentences?

7) Enthusiasm: Is the student smiling? Is he/she excited to share and changing tones?

8) Participation: Is the student sitting still and listening to others? Is he/she asking questions?

Each week, I will send home the sharing evaluation form that summarizes how your child did in sharing that week and what areas need additional practice. Each area is assessed from a 1 to 6. A 4 is considered wonderful! Please review these forms to make improvements for the following week’s sharing.

Speaking in front of a group is always challenging, no matter the age! Practicing sharing each week will help your child overcome fears of speaking in public. I look forward to hearing your children’s wonderful sharing topics! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!
