Students have exercise time during recess and lunch. It is also an opportunity for students to learn and follow playground rules, as well as how to interact and respect others when playing. In addition, we work on motor skills in Kindergarten. - Fine Motor Skills: drawing, writing, cutting, holding a pencil correctly, holding scissors - Gross Motor Skills: hopping, jumping, skipping, ball skills, balancing The District emphasis is "How I move in my Environment." - Movement skills include: Locomotor skills (walking, running, hopping, jumping, skipping, leaping, sliding), Non-locomotor skills (bending, rocking, swinging, pushing, pulling), Object manipulation (hoops, balls, ribbons), Dance and Rhythmic, Balance, and Body Awarenesss. - Social Development and Social Interaction: Students begin to learn about and interpret their environment through independent and group play. They explore and practice social interaction skills. - Self-Image and Self-Realization: Activities are designed to develop and maintain positive body image and provide opportunities to experience success and achievement through movement. |
