The mathematics curriculum is no longer focused solely on traditional computation skills.  It is required that students be able to explain their problem-solving processes as well as their answers.  A combination of math centers, free-exploration time, and practice sheets will be used in the class.

Materials
- MATHLAND: a hands-on manipulative based program, by Creative Publications to help children develop critical thinking skills
- HOUGHTON MIFFLIN: our main state text which will be used for computation drills and practice
- Children's literature stories to address counting, graphing, number sense, facts

Kindergarten Content Areas
- Number Sense: Can count, recognize, represent, name, and order numbers to 30. Can identify more than, less than, and equal to by comparing two or more set of objects
- Algebra and Functions: Can identify, sort, and classify objects by attributes. Can use concrete objects to solve addition and subtraction facts for two numbers each less than 10.
- Measurement and Geometry: Can compare length, weight, and capacity of objects. Can demonstrate understanding of concepts of time (days of the week, morning/afternoon, yesterday/tomorrow, time to nearest hour). Can identify shapes.
- Statistics, Data Analysis, and Probability: Can identify, describe, and extend simple patterns.
- Mathematical Reasoning: Can use manipulatives to solve problems. Can explain the reasoning used to solve problems.
